What's Going On In the San Joaquin Valley?

Interesting waste of time looking at various trains in Amtrak's Track-A-Train map after verifying status of the one I need to know about (meeting somebody tonight) ... anyway ...
SJV always used to be a pretty much on-time area; trains were seldom more than about 10 minutes late unless something dire happened. Not so any more, apparently; the good trains are 10-20 minutes late, with at least one every day running close to 2 hours (or more!) late. Yes, occasionally it's possible to find out through other means what happened when a train was running 15-20 min. late then suddenly jumps to 4+ hours (just before it disappears into a "service disruption" notice) - quick search of local papers revealed the grade crossing wreck. But the 1-2 hour lates don't seem to have any obvious cause - they just lose 20-40 minutes per stop, especially northbound. Is BNSF melting down in the Valley?
Funny: the only long-distance western Amtrak train that seems not to have any serious delays lately is the Sunset ... often on time, or even early.
