Classic example was the Wright's tunnel in 1906. S.A. fault broke through the tunnel a short way in from the east portal - offset several feet. Yes, the tracks looked a lot like the ones in those 1952 pictures. SP fixed the tunnel and had the line open again quickly, and the tunnel continued to be used until the line was torn out several decades later. The only real damage in the tunnel was in the immediate vicinity of the fault breaks.
