What a pathetic excuse for "inspections:"! Looks as though
the anti-"gummit" right-wingers have succeeded beyond
their wildest dreams: cut, cut, cut government funding so
that there are never enough inspectors to keep private
industry honest.. And, yes, private industry will -- unless
stopped by someone powerful enough -- do as little as
it can get away with. After all, making high-quality goods
and providing high-quality services does cost a lot more than
making shoddy goods and providing lousy "service".
It is irresponsible -- and sometimes criminally negligent --
for any railroad to refuse to take proper care of all of its
infrastructure -- bridges included.
