Hutch 7.62,

As I recall, there were proposed alternatives for the Yucca Mountain Line including the option you speak of as well as an option of extending the line south from Hawthorne, NV on the abandoned Southern Pacific line through Mina and on south towards Tonopah and Goldfield. These options were tossed out because of the outcry of nuke trains running too close to population centers. Seems to be a ridiculous argument since nuke trains would travel near and through cities and towns along their way from their point of origin to Yucca Mt.
