Southern Pacific Railcars numbering

Since on the last thread went off the deep end for some reason, I'll start over.
Keeping the original reporting marks reduces confusion when it comes to specialty cars that are assigned to a pool for a certain customer. Also, with each car carrying two magnetic I.D. tags, it reduces the need to reprogram those devices and saves cost and reduces the likelihood that one or both doesn't get reprogramed. I must admit, UP has gone off the deep end when it comes to renumbering locomotives, I know of a few units that have been renumbered six times in the last 8 years. (Also, keeping the original numbers keeps ownership and leases straight.)
