So out we went last night around dusk to freeze our butts in the driveway and watch the Earth cast its orange shadow over the moon. But with news that the satellite shoot-down would be launched from the north Pacific and scatter debris eastward across the northwest U.S. and southwest Canada, we kept a sharp eye toward that part of the sky too. I barely had the tripod up and camcorder slapped on when along came two B52s out of the east. They made a medium-high altitude pass westward over the Idaho panhandle, then curved sharply northwest toward north central Washington (and beyond?). Haven't seen many of these big gals since they got yanked from the regular fleet at Fairchild. Must have been offering some cruise missile back-up for the big show-down in the sky. UP finally kicked in its two cents with a southbound potash load right behind the house, distinctive sound of head end power over here and mid-train DPUs over there, all in dynamic as they descended toward the diamond at Grand Junction.
