If the LA / LB situation is anything like what we have up here in Seattle / Tacoma, it's gonna be a Hard Candy Christmas for retailers and shoppers. The ILWU ( Longshore ) contract with Pacific Maritime Association expired in June, and Longshore has been staging rolling slowdowns in the Ports of Seattle & Tacoma. PMA represents all U.S. West Coast ports in contract negotiations, and they haven't been in a big hurry to settle as long as Longshore continues to work. The slowdowns here come just as the Export Apple crop is beginning to ship, which adds further delays on top of a reefer container shortage. Also a shortage of Steamship - supplied container chassis as they are transitioning to 3PL providers and leasers.
