The reason why many trucking companies separate out fuel surcharges is so they can continue to brag about " having the lowest rates ". The LTL Carriers ( YRC, Conway, R&L, etc ) now also have an incredible array of Accessorial Charges for everyting from liftgate use to appointment notification. As with fuel surcharges, these additional fees are not considered part of the Basic Rate, which is usually a certain dollar amount per hundred weight, from origin Zip Code to destination Zip Code. As the saying goes: " Your rate may vary."
