Practically since the beginning of radio advertising in 1922, some advertising has been bought just to keep the advertiser's name before the public. Some advertising has been bought to create a favorable public opinion of an industry or company rather than sell a specific product.
Those who are old enough may remember "The Railroad Hour" sponsored by AAR on the NBC Radio Network from 1948 to 1954. Gordon MacRae was the star of a high budget program that presented musical comedies and original musical numbers. Marvin Miller was the announcer and occasional actor.
KNBR has a large adult male audience. It has very few teeny boppers so it is the kind of audience that a railroad might wish to impress.
