Besides scrolling down, to the time indicated on the KIRK thread, here is a copy of the Sutherlin City Council minutes for February 11th for all of you to peruse...
Don Kirk – presentation
Kirk introduced the Oregon Transportation Museum stating they would like to locate a museum in
Sutherlin. He explained the program and their hopes of having it opened sometime next year. It
would be similar to the old Knott’s Berry Farm. Their not asking for money from the city, they would
just like help in obtaining grants for their operation. He named several of the vehicles/items they
currently have and what they are trying to obtain. He further expanded on their goals for the
Museum.
Councilor Luzier questioned if they’ve formed a corporation. Kirk stated they are in the process.
Luzier asked if it would be a 501c3 non-profit and if they had a business plan.
Kirk stated, yes, it would be a 5013c; the business plan is costly and the last one they had was for
Sweet Home where it was previously located, so right now they do not have one.
Mayor Sparks said he would like to see some sort of business plan prior to any commitments.
Kirk stated they were mainly trying to see if the city would be interested in having this or not and
if the steam locomotive would be available to restore and operate.
Mayor Sparks stated the city would have to do some research on the locomotive.
City Manager, Schmidt, stated that Sutherlin has no surplus property available. Council was in
agreement of reviewing a business plan before making any commitments.
There you are folks..
