Sorry about being excessively cynical. But the noise, especially, is annoying when trains are parked in the station for a while. Understand that things probably move in and out of LAUS fairly often, but it's still something to think about. And the noise, at least, could be reduced by replacing HEP inverters on the main generator with separate, quieter HEP generators. Of course, those "screamers" probably are the oldest and the first to go when newer locomotives arrive. Things change...
Might want to think about how airports handle "HEP" - planes come in and shut down, running off either ground power or, for short stops, a smaller and (should be but often isn't) quieter/lower emission APU (train equivalent - separate HEP generator). Adding ground power hookups for tracks where trains will sit for hours might be worth considering when a major station remodel is done (allowing complete shutdown). Same could be said for several other locations, not just LA.
