There won't be freight service to San Rafael because of the high platforms SMART is using. Special expensive gantlet tracks need to be installed to pass these platforms at required clearances. Such tracks are not being installed at the Hamilton station so freight to San Rafael will be impossible.

Perhaps the NWP will run down to San Rafael for fun or an event sometime. That would be great.

Also there's always the hope that SMART will do work trains down there with the locomotive they are looking to buy.
