Other than crew costs where are the efficiencies of longer trains? This PR piece spends almost the entire time comparing the 12,000 foot train to trucks. At one point it was stated that is saves locomotives and the environment. Again, how does a 12k train with 7 locomotives save over two shorter trains? I would think terminal difficulties of building these trains and yarding them would dig into any crew savings. And how about the 12,000' walk when the DP on the rear quits and needs attention? Oh wait, that never happens.
I don't really care how long a train they run in California but I thought the video was a lot of "lite FM" and really just a slick PR ad.
