Back in the Milwaukee Road days I was an Engineer on an eastbound freight train stopping at Brookfield,WI. to do some way work. We blocked the Brookfield Rd. crossing at the depot for about 20 minutes which was not an unusual practice at the time. About three months later my insurance man called me to tell me my drivers insurance coverage was being dropped due to the 6 point moving violation in the city of Brookfield. Of course I had no idea what he was talking about until making a few phone calls. What had happened the Brookfield police had called the Milwaukee Road's Dupalinville tower operator regarding the crossing being blocked. The police asked the Towerman who the Engineer was and being a civic minded employee he gave them my name. It took me six months two Attorneys and a lot of headaches to get everything squared away again. As we did block the crossing the Milwaukee Road paid a fifty dollar fine. The Milwaukee Road DID cover all the court costs and attorneys fees too.
