To clarify Al's statement regarding a "wood treating plant" in West Oakland.....
At the Southwest corner of the Yard, near the "Fire Protection Pond", there was a "wood treatment plant" for creosoting railroad ties.. It was commonly referred to by the employees as the "Creosote Plant" ...
Further North on the little road that meandered through the Yard was the "B&B Shop".
Ernie Haase was the Supervisor. Across the street from B&B, right next to the old Pinsch Gas Plant was the West Oakland Woodworking Mill. They could handle most anything that needed cutting or planing, up to 24-foot bridge timbers.
