Also consider cost. The closer one gets to a major metro area, the room rental costs get higher and higher. If you could find a venue similar to the Scotish Rite Temple in the SF Bay Area, the cost would be a deal killer, and the same likely holds true in Portland.

My speculation is that Winterail 2016 will be a smaller event that in the past, but that's OK with me. I plan to attend.

By the way, a previous poster stated something about Winterail being in a dangerous location. While there are some not so good areas of Stockton, the area near the Scottish Rite Temple is not one of them. Close to the University of the Pacific, I've never had any issues with the neighborhood.
