This is a classic thread.
Yes, some of these older rail stations can be true architectural gems. But very often, they were cheaply built semi "Spanish revival" knock offs, like this one. Poorly built, with bad remodels, and poorly maintained, attempts to restore some of these can become money pits, often preserving very little of much historic value. And, in such cases replacement is a perfectly reasonable alternative.
I like to call that kind of nth degree "preserve everything old" regardless of condition or merit nonsense for what it often really is: "hysterical" preservation.....
