Train IDs...

In my small area of the US, the UPRR runs a daily local from a yard to a frac sand operation on a nearby Sub-division, with a return run possibly the same day, or often the next day.
The thing is... the train is ID'd as LBJ-04 or LPJ-04, depending on your ear.
My question is... is it common for a railroad to ID trains with letters that can be easily misconstrued?
