You're about to get the "but everyone relies on the roads" reply.
I've never owned a car but almost all the roads in my town are paid for out of property taxes that I have to pay.
As everyone here knows, the federal gas tax hasn't been raised in 21 years and congress keeps kicking it down the road. Nobody wants to be accused of actually "raising" taxes. Adjusting for inflation is not raising taxes, just as COLA in Social Security is not raising your spending power. And so the Highway Trust Fund continues to be subsidized by the income tax.
But then it is human nature. People want services but are not willing to pay for them... especially if it is a service they don't happen to use.
I'll continue pay for roads if you continue to pay for transit.
