NCRA's purchase of the Eureka Southern from the bankruptcy court in 1992 included two locomotives, the ex-CCT #70 (GP-7) and the former Arcata & Mad River #104 (44-tonner). The new North Coast Railroad used leased SP locomotives until their own power, six ex-SP GP-9s leased from Monson, arrived on the property. Of those six, four are in Eureka- as referenced in the report- another one is in Willits, and the sixth was moved a year or so ago from Petaluma to Schellville. While owned by Monson, they have all been lettered for North Coast Railroad (except for the #2872, which remains in SP paint) since 1992.
As the article state, there are presently five locomotives in Eureka, the four leased from Monson and the #70, which is still owned by NCRA. The other railcars still in the Eureka yard include two Difco side dump cars and one BN centerbeam.
