I see I am not the only one to remember the good old Navy days, with no showers except sea water. Coming out of the engine or boiler room, we would get the oil and grease off with diesel fuel, then a salt water bath in a garbage can. In the late '60's and early '70's there were still a lot of WW2 ships in service, and I was on one of the oldest and most worn out. 3-4 days out, we would be on water hours. If, by accident, we made enough water to maybe get a shower (the officers and chiefs got theirs first)the Master-at-Arms was standing there by the shower to pull you out if were in over a minute total, finished or not. The water we did make was still too salty to drink without puking, anyway. Didn't have to salt the chow, but the coffee was terrible. Good luck to CA and other dry places. It is going to be a long hot summer, even here in Western Oregon. There is not enough snow pack to last. I will be emptying lots of beer bottles!
