I was ordered to Planet Ord on the Monterey Bay in '77, 7th ID (NOT light!). My company was just forming and the main thing we did for the first few months was area beatification: watering the dead grass! The line to Pacific Grove already quit running.

Never heard anything about a drought. We would even fill up water buffalos and convoy out to Ft. Hunter-Ligget, Camp Roberts, and even down to Ft Irwin.

By the time ETS active duty in '79 rolled around I think SP had cut back to Seaside.
I took the Starlight home from Salinas.
