As mentioned in thread below, this is a design showplace in the Showplace Square area and is being torn down. The webdigger thread has lots of interesting information. Basically, this was the terminus of the WP line in SF. The ferry slip was over by Islais Creek, wound around and through Potrero Hill and terminated here.
The iron structure was built in 1980 as part of the design exhibition remodel. It lies on top of where the rails used to be. The two WP freight houses are the structures on either side. The WP tracks ran out of this yard toward camera, southwest.

Langton Street spur that had several cars in it in the 1930's picture. This spur was reached off Brannan lead. It's between 8th and 7th.
Rails are still visible where all the cars are parked in this view from the north
It being lunchtime, I got some curry at the food truck here which was quite good. As I was eating it, gazing through the windows of the nice renovated old building at corner of 8th and Brannan across street from the freight buidlings, I saw rails. This turns out to be the headquarters of AirBnB, address 888 Brannan, and this is where it's rail spur entered and ran through building to Decatur Street. It was a battery factory in earlier days.
