Mouse,
San Gabriel, or any major LA region east west thrust faults, "deemed" inactive? By whom? I don't think that is what my old chum Lucy Jones would say about that fault.....
Is it part of the vast ever expanding BART/SMART/NWP/CHASRA/PB conspiracy, or just more dubious hearsay? What document is this secret stuff in?
And, just how much work have you done on ITS, or automated vehicle systems? The engine type has nothing whatsoever to do with the automation functions required....your gasoline powered car is already running by computer, it's just not steering it yet. Where do you get some of this stuff? Have you ever tried google?
The potential alignment of a combined HSR Metrolink connection, through a tunnel to east of Lang, down the 118, to San Fernando Road, would cut off miles of potential extra construction costs, community impacts, and running time, from a route through the I-5/14 pass.
It does traverse a small part of the National Forest, all or mostly in an unseen tunnel. And will likely cross an active fault, which will require engineering for thrust movements, just as was done for the Metro Red Line through the Santa Monica/Malibu fault complex under the Hollywood Bowl, not to mention for the "evil" BART, through the Hayward fault.....
And, (not by accident) because this part of the Angeles National Forest was not designated as Monument (due to unresolved water, utility easements, telecommunications, and other infrastructure issues), a shorter route, via a tunnel option, probably would have less nimby hurtles to jump, than the route through Santa Clarita has run into....
