Now the Special Agents would be obligated to arrest you for trying to help out. They can't seem to tell the difference these days. Last week I called something in and waited for the Special Agent to show up and he told me that "in his opinion I had to have been trespassing to have discovered the problem" (I was not, it was seen through a telephoto from an overpass) and since at some time in the past I had been contacted by a BNSF special agent he would normally be required to issue me a trespassing citation but he would let me go "just this time" -- no thanks for reporting the problem or anything like that. I'll certainly think twice about calling in next time -- derailment photo's pay better anyway.
