January 1973, when SP and WP agreed to a proposal UP made to interchange Wells Gateway Tariff traffic at Ogden and Salt Lake City instead of Wells. UP received permission to abandon the line on August 21, 1978, and removed the rails in late 1979/early 1980. As for layovers, 1929 timetable allowed a little over six hours southbound (depart Twin Falls 1:05 P.M., arrive Wells 7:15 P.M.) and a little over seven hours northbound (Depart Wells 9:30 A.M., arrive Twin Falls 4:40 P.M.). This schedule implies a 14-hour layover at Wells. By 1963 they completed the entire trip in just over 10 hours- Leave Twin Falls 7:00 P.M., arrive Wells 12:01 A.M., Depart Wells 12:15 A.M., arrive back at Twin Falls 5:15 A.M.).

Installation of the signals pointing both directions on the paired track extends all the way to Alazon, though not all signals have yet been turned towards the tracks. I don't know why they are being installed this way, but it's how all the other signals being installed as part of the PTC out here are being set up...just might give them more operational flexibility...
