I believe the Preservation thread mentioned that the asking price of the cars is $25,000 per, which about equals their scrap value.

I'm saddened as much by the loss of the Lansdowne. As a teenager I used to watch her paddle between the GTW Brush Street Station and Windsor. When converted to a barge, she was the oldest operating paddle wheel vessel in condinuing service on the lakes. Fitting, because her running mate, the Huron, was THE oldest commercial vessel in regular service on the lakes.

But I digress. The problem with the Skytops is not so much can they be saved from the scrapper, but are they worth saving, given their cost and the cost of any restoration. Could this potential money be used to restore 4 or 5 other cars that are in better shape? I would not want to be the one who had to make that decision.
