Keep in mind the reason for the existance for the NWP was the transportation of LUMBA from Humbolt County to the bay area. They could give a fig for passengers. When the lumber petered out they got out of the passenger buisness by creating Greyhound in Marin with Standard Oil, GM Yellowcoach and Goodyear tires. As the man said. The only reason for passenger service was the mail contract. Hence goodby NWP for passenger servoce and as freight service died. What was left in San Rafael in the 60's? Three sand, gravel and concrete companies and maybe a lumber company. Oh yeah. McPhails got some tanks for home heating oil in Petaluma and San Rafael along with some paving road oil. All the light industry in Sausalito ( Schoonmaker,American Distilery, Bullard and a few others.) died out too. Hence, nothing for NWP to do.
