Thank you for your inquery about tourist activities in Portland. There has been some outdated information posted by other responders, so we wanted to give you an update.

First, this area is now one of the Hister-Urban-Renewal-Zones. So there are no spaces to park cars. Bring a bike. Or a double decker bike.

Concerning your second question, most hipsters in the area like to go to concerts, shows, and most imortantly craft brew pubs at night. If you do not go out at night, you are missing out in the neo-cultrual attractions of the area. But here are some safety tips for newcommers:
1. Brush up on your craft beers. If a local hipster starts quizing you on your favorite beer, don't run. Slowly back away while mentioning you like the Inversion IPA from Deschutes Brewry. Under know circumstances mention you like a corporate beer like Coors or Budwiser.
2. Bring a bike. You are less likely to be attacked by other bicylists while on a bike, and also there is no place to park a car anyway.
3. Only use a film camera. If you are standing by railroad tracks with a film camera, hipsters will just think you are one of them on some self-exploration art assignment. Using high end digital gear may arouse suspicion.
4. Blend in. Grow a beard, wear flannel, and if it rains do not use an umbrella. Did I mention it is best to travel by bike?
