First you imagine the contemplation of detours through the canyon - based on little real information.

Then you come back with a comment about the "mysterious" reduction in the estimated size of the fire. There is no mystery, those in charge were undoubtedly far more concerned with getting resources to the fire than accurate size mapping. But, as you noted, that information comes later when more complete aerial surveys are done.

When you live near the path of a fire, its direction and speed are of greater importance than how big it is.

For what it's worth, there is no CDF. They're called CalFire now, and we're damned glad there here!
