The USGS link that Al posted earlier provides some good old maps of the San Mateo 15' quad, which includes what's now "San Francsico South". There's an 1899 version that's before Ocean Shore (it shows up in 1915), but does show the Lakmer branch extending across the lake at the narrows between the two major branches, through what's now the Zoo, and north along the Beach. I haven't gotten the site to cough up anything older than 1947 for SF North, but there probably is something that I just haven't gotten the right search term for yet.
