Life of a Long-Haul Trucker - sounds like some trainmen I have known

Interesting quick read. I knew some SP and Amtrak engineers/etc. back in the day, and heard similar things. Work jobs close to home when you need to be available regularly for the family, for instance, accepting the lower pay (by the hour for the trucker; how are/were the regular switch jobs paid?), then when there's time build up the bank account out on the road. Yes, I know, not everybody is that way, but that's the way the people I knew worked it out.
