Since the orignal mining company stopped mining in 1922 it would seem kind of difficult to hold them responsible. The problem seems to be that a near by mine that was abandoned and had it's adit pluged with a concrete plug acording to EPA specs has filled with water and leaked into the Gold King. The Gold King adit was then sealed with a concrete plug. Apparentally The EPA was digging near the plug and got into the tunnel in back of the plug with disastorous
results.
