The facility in Newberg... SP Newsprint... does indeed still get service. Nearly every day, and weekends too. Loads out, and hog fuel (including large quantities of old RR ties) in to feed the cogen plant. Neat stretch of street running, usually with an SW9!

As has been mentioned, all service comes from the south (RR West... McMinnville). Occasional carloads for other local customers are spotted on a team track on the west side of town.

The line over Rex Hill is intact and pretty much "all there", if somewhat overgrown. A huge string of container well cars was stored on the Newberg side of the hill up until a few years ago. Stretched all the way to the summit from just past Springbrook Rd. Anyway, they were pulled out of there about, oh 2 years ago.

I surmise that P&W might run over Rex Hill to retrieve their stranded cars, but probably won't immediately rebuild the trestle. But, they'll keep the line intact. Yamhill Cty isn't a part of Metro, but a proposal for rail service at least as far as Sherwood, can't be that far off... good bet that P&W (and UP) or more-or-less planning on it.
