Suggest talking with an Amtrak agent about fares. Believe you will find there are 4 levels of charges.. the fare increases as the space is sold. Solution. Plan your next trip a yr ahead of time and get the lowest fares. I.E..Roomette Klamath Falls to Seattle . starts $162 plus base fare $63. Last one to buy a ticket pays $367 plus the $63. Or a bedroom Seattle - Chgo. starts at $545 and goes to $1704 plus $174 base. Remember as well that two people share the sleeper charge. The easy way to avoid any charge is use an Amtrak Rewards credit card, pay your charges in full each month and ride Amtrak completely free ..plus tips.. Way to go....
