Raceway Fun Train!

Key Holidays Raceway Fun Train was run from Sacramento to Sear's Point on the NWP, where the Rolling Stones originally wanted to put on their free concert in 1969 instead of Altamont, leaving at 630am and arriving at the race track perhaps around 945. It left the race track around 515, heading towards Wingo where Norton Buffalo filmed a great music video, and got to Suisun around 745. As Mick Jagger sang, the silver train was a-running.

Here it is coming through the NWP's Schellville yard, first as a speck in the distance and then running threading through the switches onto the wye track.

Here it is running along Ramal Road on the way to the Brazos bridge as race fans investigate a means of bypassing race traffic on the highway, which wasn't that bad. Of course Mario Andretti has a winery in Napa and it's possible he is out here for a joyride after watching the race or something. We cannot know. Jeff Gordon also has a winery here and this could him enjoying a drive on the backroads of Sonoma after the race.

And running away from the crossing where I was standing.

It took more than a bit more than hour to get from Schellville, across the Brazos bridge, up into Lombard and over Creston Hill where I caught it as it ran down the grade toward Red Top Rd. and then the 80 overcrossing. Randy Lewis also has a winery in Napa Valley. Maybe he was the guy driving down Ramal chasing the train. They weren't speeding or anything but it's fun to speculate.

It was about another half an hour from Red Top Rd. to this crossing just west of the the junction with the Cal P.
