UP Power Reliability

.
I was talking with a relative who monitors the east end of the UP Canyon Sub on their home scanner and they were mentioning to me that it seems like the UP crews are having to call-in to "Mr. Goodwrench" more than ever before, due to locomotive failure issues.

Is UP seeing an increase in locomotive failure issues or could it be due to today's units being so heavily dependent upon computerization? Are things so highly-technical now that the crews are having to call-in more often to help receive help to solve a computer glitch or other mechanical problem? Or is UP following the footsteps of SP in its last days, as power became more and more unreliable?

Are GE units seeing more failures than EMD locomotives?
