Thank you Bob. Japan has been building tunnels in earthquake country for years. The sky is not falling there either. And they go under water for miles also.
My biggest complaint is the HSR route was "forced" to go through the Palmdale area by Zev Yaralofsky (sp) a now retired county supervisor, so we can have access to the Palmdale airport. What a crock. There is and will not be in my lifetime any good commercial air carriers out of there for any person in LA to warrant the trip there. The HSR route should have gone up I 5, tunnel under Tejon ranch, and out at Grapevine, with a split at the 99/5 interchange, one to Fresno/Sacramento, the other directly to San Fancisco. The ROW of the 5 fwy could handle all of it. The Japanese and French got it right with there design, Ca didn't.
