Well, if so, you would force Caltrain to pay twice the price for a product half as good, and taking twice as long to build.

It is sad to say, but that's about the state of development for EMUs in the US.

Also keep in mind that no matter who gets the order, will have a factory in the US.

It is therefore the decision between fully FRA-compliant tanks on rail (which did not perform well in some recent collisions), or vehicles which provide and work.

Another tangent: we hear about the SMART DMUs, but (maybe it is still a bit too early) nothing about the eBART DMUs… just FWIW, the latter easily will outperform the former…
