SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. (KCRA) -A person was killed Friday morning when a passenger Amtrak train crashed with a pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 8:45 a.m. near Keys and Natomas roads in Sutter County.

The driver of the truck was killed in the collision. No one on board the train was hurt, officers said.

The train, which was heading from Seattle to Los Angeles, had a few hundred people on board when it crashed into the passenger side of the pickup truck as it crossed the tracks.

Amtrak train engineers said they tried to get the driver's attention before the crash by blowing the whistles and horns on the train.

It is unclear how fast the pickup truck was going when it crossed the tracks.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
