Harbor Sub/Slauson Corridor Proposal

Almost half of the LACMTA owned Harbor sub will be used for LRT Right of Way. Soon, with the Crenshaw line, which will connect the Expo line to the Green line, serving LAX and using still more of the Harbor sub segment ROW from Slauson to the Green Line, allowing direct service to Redondo Beach and LAX via two LRT routes.
Metrolink commuter and LRT options were studied back in the 90's for all of these ROW segments that were acquired from SP and BNSF, and almost all of the highly urbanized segments were able to offer much higher service levels and achieve much higher ridership with full LRT systems, than with limited commuter services.
There is a study that's been proposed for using this segment as part of a "Slauson" corridor LRT route from LAX to Whittier, using the PE Yorba Linda line. LACMTA is effectively "rail banking" this segment with the bikeway for possible future use.
And, of course we should have used the Second District for commuter rail. We should have traded 40,000 daily riders (current and estimated from Azusa to LAUPT) for only 2,000 daily riders (original ML alternative ridership on 2nd District via Pasadena from San Berdoo), right? Would anyone even miss 2,000 trips a day (for a reduction of .06% in the traffic volume) on the I-210 corridor through Pasadena?
