Grinding new rail is a very good idea. Rail from the factory is not perfect and has minor mill scale, along with other imperfections. Also, minor corrugations are removed eliminating a possible snow ball effect that leads to greater/larger corrugations and possible cracks/fractures. Plus, the rail head can be shaped for specific applications and conditions. It has been proven grinding new rail helps extent the life of the rail and keep it in tip-top shape.
