For Rich- your comments are fairly correct as applied to us out here in eastern Nevada. That being said, I listen to the public radio station that comes to us out of Reno on a regular basis, and they regularly interview people associated with the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN). EDAWN people consistently talk about the massive influx of young professionals moving into the Reno/Tahoe area, mostly from California, and the various mostly high-tech jobs that are relocating to my state from California. Organizations like EDAWN and indeed the state itself do spend a good deal of time marketing the benefits of moving businesses to Nevada in California.
That being said, it probably does look different from the outside looking in.
Shortline Sammy- I thank you for your comments. I am not currently involved with any shortlines, and I don't see myself going that route, at least in the near future...but it is an interesting thought. I have always heard that the easiest way to make a small fortune in the shortline railroading business is to start with a large one, and I don't have one of those at my disposal...so for the moment I will probably continue being an interested observer of the scene and a strong student of history.
Thanks again.
