Craig, I recall reading that no New York Central steam locomotives survived, though I find that very difficult to believe given NYC's huge roster of modern steam types and their late use in service.
The Erie's Steam Extinct story is true; also future merger partner Lackawanna only had one steamer preserved. I believe it is at the St. Louis Museum of Transport ( or whatever it is called).
