When they decide, Novato will probably have to reach some agreement with SMART regarding a NEW high level platform and gauntlet tracks and who is going to pay for them. Also, the Novato Consent Decree is also waiting in the wings to bite SMART in the ass. It say that NWP must run their freights between 7 am and 8pm. Over course, this is exactly what SAMRT does not want. It coast NWP and NCRA $325,000to defend against it. With SMART on the verge of starting service later this year, the Commuter line would love to have NWP run at night and not interfere with their trains. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.
