4449 & 4443

Not knocking 4449 at all - I am a BIG 4449 FAN and we are lucky to have her. OPERATIONAL, NO LESS!!!

But I am wondering why, if 4443 was a SP favorite for special occasions, they didn't save 4443 instead of 4449? They probably chose the 4449 because it was the easiest one to get ready to ship to Portland. Or maybe just because 4449 was first out on the Bakersfield dead line.

My favorite RR, the NP was too cheap or too ??? to save any of their beautiful big steam!!! It was the SP&S who saved the 700, the ONLY surviving example of BIG NP steam power to survive.
