Metrolink Train Service Halted After Suspicious Packages Found At Norwalk Station

NORWALK (CBSLA.com/AP) — Metrolink train service was shut down Thursday morning after a suspicious package was found chained to a post near a Metrolink station.

Officials received reports of suspicious packages found around 7:25 a.m. at the Metrolink Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs station along Imperial Highway just east of Bloomfield Avenue, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesperson.

Two packages were reported as suspicious, authorities said.

All train service at the station was stopped as dogs inspected the packages.

Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson says the owner of the track, BNSF Railway, issued the order when the package or packages were discovered. Johnson says the freight operator did not share details like location or description.

Because of the attacks in Belgium, all precautions are being taken, Johnson said.

The lines affected include the Orange County line from Los Angeles to Oceanside and the line between Riverside and Los Angeles. Johnson says between 10 and 12 trains are stopped but all are at stations either east or west of Norwalk.
