While I totally disagree with the conspiracy theory accusing GM, Firestone and Standard Oil of the demise of urban rail transit systems, I never felt that Barry Commoner was an imbecile. The reality is many more have promoted this theory. Bradford Snell, an attorney has been the lead advocate of the conspiracy theory. There was a piece about it in "Corporate Crime Comics." Newsweek or Time had an article about it during the 1970s. It was also advanced by a UC-Santa Barbara sociology teacher (even as an impressionable young student, I found it to be an unsatisfactory explanation of the decline of systems). Most notably, the theory was the major theme in the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."
