There have been no siting's reported, as yet, of the mysterious top secret "fantasy" Mexican "super port", and there never likely will be Since none of the proposals I've seen for 30 years can compete successfully for this traffic base that comes through POLA/POlA/Oakland SFO/Stockton/San Joaquin as efficiently. And, certainly not without several tens of billions in port, and many several tens of more billions in landside highway and rail connections.
On the other hand though, after we've put that 30% tariff on imports in order to "save" American jobs, advocated by some folks these days, then we'll be perfectly okay, since this action will pretty much solve all of our future port capacity problems, and eliminate most, if not all of those trade related emissions, from those dirty rotten awful trucks and trains.
That's because something like this proposed tariff would probably eliminate about 60% of all US imports, cause about a 50% inflation rate, resulting in about a 30% decline in US GDP, as almost all remaining US manufacturing shuts down, because of the cost of imported parts, and much of everything else we've become used to, rises to unaffordable levels, and no one will have a job left to buy anything, imported, or otherwise, anyhow..... Which, of course, will certainly "save" American jobs, right?
So, as you can see, as usual with this kind of thing, if it's not one thing, it's another..... Or, as that great philosopher Jim Morrison used to say: "the future's uncertain, and the end is always near....."
Oh well?
