I remember that day and even spotted a younger, leaner and less bald version of myself in the crowd at Afton.

As far as a smaller crowd in Afton Canyon for 8444's eastbound trip. At the same time 8444 was heading east from Yermo many of us who chased her west were chasing 4449 over Tehachapi. A busy day, starting with 8444 and 4449 travelling up Cajon Pass and then a choice to follow one of them from there.
